Malaysia recorded RM47.8 billion of construction work in the second quarter of 2026, an 8.8% increase from a year earlier, DOSM reported.
Special trade activities grew 17.6% and non-residential buildings 13.3%. Private-sector construction increased 11.4%, while public-sector work rose 4.1% to RM16.4 billion.
Activity remained geographically concentrated. Selangor accounted for RM12.2 billion, followed by Johor with RM9.4 billion. The Federal Territories and Sarawak contributed RM5.2 billion and RM4.7 billion respectively. Together, those four reporting areas represented 65.8% of the total.

The release measures work done during the quarter. It is not a total of newly awarded contracts, proposed developments or property transactions. Those distinctions matter when using construction statistics to judge a contractor’s potential market.
Across the first half of 2026, work done totalled RM94.3 billion, up 8.7%. That annual growth was slower than the 14.7% recorded for the first half of 2025. Expansion therefore continued, but at a more moderate pace on that comparison.
