Editorial Policy

How we report, what we prioritise, and the principles that guide our editorial decisions.

Mission and scope

Next Malaysia is an independent industry news publication focused on Malaysia’s companies, industries, economy and the ideas shaping them. We are source-led, factual, analytical and independent.

News, analysis, explainer, opinion and sponsored

We use visibly different labels. News is verified reporting and leads with facts. Analysis interprets significance using evidence and identifies its author. Explainer answers “what is this / how does it work?” and shows source and review dates. Interview states the participant’s role and the interview date. Opinion is a named contributor viewpoint, never presented as newsroom fact. Sponsored is paid content, visually and technically separated from editorial.

Verification and fact-checking

We check names, titles, numbers, dates, company relationships and quotes before publication. Every important current number includes the period it refers to and the source date. We do not publish invented statistics, fabricated quotes, fake experts or made-up business relationships.

Handling press releases

A press release may trigger coverage, but Next Malaysia decides the news angle, verifies material facts, removes promotional language and adds industry context. “Submitted by a company” does not equal “verified by the newsroom”.

Anonymous sources

Rare, with editor approval, and we explain the reason where it is safe to do so. Anonymous sources do not support material claims on their own.

Conflicts of interest, gifts and travel

Staff disclose relevant financial or personal interests. Gifts, paid travel and event invitations are declined or disclosed in line with this policy.

Superlatives and “What’s Next”

We do not adopt unsupported “No.1”, “best”, “leading” or “fastest-growing” claims as our own voice; if a source makes the claim we attribute it. What’s Next is analysis, not prediction theatre: it separates confirmed developments, plausible scenarios, constraints and unknowns.

Corrections and updates

See our Corrections policy. Material factual errors get a dated correction note.

Commercial and editorial separation
