Responsible Use of AI
How we use AI in our editorial workflow — and where we do not.
AI supports research, drafting and publishing at Next Malaysia. This policy distinguishes disclosed AI-assisted source summaries from human-reviewed journalism.
Disclosed AI-assisted publishing
Routine source-led news briefs and public professional profiles may be prepared and published through an AI-assisted workflow approved by the publisher. These items carry a visible AI-assisted label, link to their evidence and provide a correction route. They are original summaries, not copies of source articles. A source check or publication approval is not represented as a named human editor’s review.
What AI can assist with
Transcription, tagging, research organisation, translation support, drafting and checking claims against accessible public records. Source publication dates and reporting periods remain distinct from our own publication date.
Limits and verification
AI is not a source and cannot replace evidence. Unsupported claims, invented quotes and fabricated interviews must not be published. High-risk claims, including allegations and personalised medical, legal or financial guidance, require human verification against primary or reliable sources. Content labelled human-reviewed must actually receive that review.
Real photographs and public profiles
Documentary photographs must have an established rights basis and accurate credits. Archival and company-context images are labelled; a company building is not presented as a person’s portrait. Generated images must never be presented as documentary evidence. People profiles contain public, business-relevant information only, not home addresses, personal phone numbers or family details.
Accountability and corrections
The publisher remains responsible for publication decisions and corrections. AI-assisted labels do not guarantee accuracy or imply endorsement by a source or photographed person. Readers can report an error; substantiated errors should be corrected transparently. Search-indexing requirements for company and people pages remain in place.
Updated 11 September 2026 to introduce the publisher-approved, disclosed AI-assisted workflow.
